Moldova U21

History

The story of U21 international football in Moldova began in August 1992 when the side suffered a 1-0 defeat to Belarus in Chisinau.

Since their initial campaign in 1996, the side have failed to qualify for the subsequent 13 editions of the UEFA EURO U21 finals, but their success has been in the players that have progressed through the ranks to the senior side over the course of the last two decades. Despite their lack of qualification success, the side have claimed victories in 30 of their 120 competitive fixtures, and won half of their qualifiers during both the 2009 and 2015 qualifying campaigns. Their biggest victory remains a 5-1 success against Georgia in February 2006 which was played in Valletta, Malta. Their heaviest defeat arrived early in their history as Greece claimed a convincing 8-0 win in October 1996.
