A former striker, Häberli spent the majority of his professional career playing with Swiss outfit BSC Young Boys, representing the club for almost a decade before retiring in 2009.

During his playing career he would make just one appearance for the Swiss national team against the Faroe Islands in 2004. Moving into coaching with Young Boys and later with former club Basel at intermediate level and as assistant to the respective 1st team managers, Häberli would not take on his first management position until February 2019 when he joined FC Luzern. However, he was sacked before the end of the year. Häberli was named manager of the Estonian national team in January this year in what is his first position as a player, coach and manager outside of his native Switzerland.
