Despite being born in Glasgow, current interim manager Stuart McLaren spent the majority of his playing career in Australia representing Wollongong Wolves, Brisbane Strikers, Queensland Roar and Perth Glory either side of a return to Scotland with Stirling Albion and Hamilton Academical, and also played for Australia at U20 level.

His coaching career began in Australia with Brisbane Strikers and he worked as an assistant at North Queensland Fury before returning to Britain in 2011 to coach the Loughborough University side. In 2014 he was appointed manager of Stirling Albion and stayed at the club for the next two years. In 2018, McLaren became manager of the Scotland U16 side, and took over as interim manager of the women's national team at the start of the year following the departure of Shelley Kerr.
